Empower 101 Course

(2 day/16hr)

Welcome to the Empower 101 course expertly crafted by Empower Academy to equip individuals with essential skills rooted in situational awareness and an analytical mindset.

Situational awareness and analytical thinking are deeply interconnected, with the latter serving as the foundation for the former. Situational awareness is the ability to perceive, understand, and anticipate potential threats or changes in one's environment. However, to accurately assess a situation, one must first master analytical thinking—the ability to critically evaluate information, recognize patterns, and make informed decisions. Analytical thinking enables individuals to process observations effectively, distinguish between relevant and irrelevant details, and predict possible outcomes based on subtle cues. Without strong analytical skills, situational awareness becomes reactive rather than proactive, leaving individuals vulnerable to misinterpretation and poor decision-making. That is why we focus heavily on mastering analytical thinking and enable our students to assess their surroundings with clarity, identify potential risks before they escalate, and develop strategic responses that enhance personal safety and security.

Our team of retired Green Berets brings decades of experience mentoring and training Partner Nation Forces worldwide. The techniques taught in Empower Academy's curriculum stem directly from this extensive expertise. Each instructor not only teaches these proven methods but also brings their personal experience using these same methods on real-world operations into the classroom. What we teach has been tested, refined, and validated by those who have lived it.

Realistic and Relevant Curriculum

Empower Academy ensures students not only grasp the curriculum but, more importantly, know how to apply it in their daily lives. This is accomplished through a highly effective teaching method that follows a three-part structure.

First, students learn the foundational theory behind each topic. Once they have a solid understanding, they move on to practical application, learning how to integrate these concepts into real-world situations. Finally, each lesson concludes with a learning assessment—either a scenario or an exercise—where students must demonstrate their ability to apply the skills they’ve acquired.

Historical Case Studies

Analyzing historical case studies is crucial for learning from past mistakes and preventing similar tragedies in the future. While it can be difficult to read these stories, confronting them allows us to recognize patterns, understand warning signs, and develop better safety strategies. By studying these cases, we not only educate ourselves but also honor the victims by ensuring their experiences lead to meaningful change. Keeping their names alive through learning and awareness is a way of paying tribute to their lives, turning their stories into lessons that empower and protect others.

When you analyze this case with an analytical mindset, subtle details—or the absence of key information—become evident. Recognizing and evaluating these factors could have influenced the decision-making process that day, potentially altering the outcome.

Let's examine the tragedy of Julie Ashe with an analytical perspective. Were there any subtle cues, details, or environmental elements that could have altered the outcome? Let's put ourselves in her shoes on the night of December 16th with an analytical mindset.

You just finished shopping at Bradlees and walking to the car you discover a flat tire. A man appears, offering to change it for you.

  • "I didn't have a flat tire when i arrived and parked"

  • "How did this man know that i had a flat tire"

  • "Where did he come from? It's freezing outside, why is he out here?"

  • "Where is his car?"

  • "Why does he want to change my tire?"

Julie Ashe was a kind and compassionate young woman with a big heart. That evening, she gratefully accepted his help, and when he finished changing the tire and asked for a ride to the gas station, she couldn’t bring herself to refuse. It was a cold night, and he had just done her a favor.

  • "Where is his car?"

  • "What is wrong with the car?"

  • "Why does he need to go to gas station?"

  • "How long has he been out here?"

  • "Is it even appropriate?"

Julie Ashe tragically lost her life that night. Her kindness and big heart made her vulnerable, as she couldn’t bring herself to refuse a man who had just helped her with a flat tire. Her willingness to trust ultimately cost her life.
